Stephen F. Weston attended the Antioch Preparatory Academy as well as the College (A.B. 1879, A.M. 1884), and earned his Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1902.  Upon the resignation of William Bell in 1902, the Board of Trustees established the position of Dean of the Faculty, and decided that the new Dean would act as president until another could be secured.  Weston was chosen from over fifty candidates, despite his lack of administrative experience and just six years as Professor of Political and Social Sciences at Western Reserve University.  He remained Dean after the appointment of S.D. Fess in 1906 and was a fixture on the Antioch faculty until 1925.  Weston helped organize the Intercollegiate Peace Association in 1906 and from 1911 until his death in 1935 served as its executive secretary.
