Antioch University

Reverend William Dawson devoted nearly his entire life to Antioch.  His association with the campus in Yellow Springs began when he entered the Antioch Preparatory Academy in 1892 and lasted until his untimely death in 1925.  Dawson, his wife Clara, and their four children were all graduates of the college.  Even before earning his A.B. in 1899 he was teaching Greek at the undergraduate level, and he joined the faculty upon receiving his degree.  He also taught German language, History, Psychology and Education.  Dawson earned his master's from Antioch in 1903, and received an honorary doctor of divinity from Union Christian College in 1912.  He became acting president upon the resignation of his predecessor George Black, and returned to the faculty when the Board appointed Arthur Morgan president in 1920.
